In Progress : Light Pink Coat Part 1

Hello, I am working on my BurdaStyle coat for MAGAM  October with the theme "Sew the U.F.O". I traced the pattern and pre-washed the fabrics last year but in the end I couldn't make it. So, it is a lovely feeling that this time I am working on it and hopefully I can wear when the weather isn't too cool :) Pattern: BurdaStyle  Three Quarter Sleeve Coat 08/2014  size 36. The coat has boxy style, no collar, 3/4 sleeves and oversize patch pockets. I omitted the crease bottom (piece no 3) and instead of two pieces back coat, I made it on the fold. Also, I am not so sure how the boxy coat with oversize patch pockets will fit my petite frame. We will see and I hope I can make it work :) source Material: 2.5 yards of rayon viscose crepe fabric in light pink colour for the coat body and 2 yards of brocade fabric in light cream for the lining, fusible interfacing, four snap buttons (fasteners) and threads. Sewing Process: Before I cut the fabric, I laid the...

MAGAM April Dress In Progress - Part 1

Hello.. I am making a dress for April - Make A Garment A Month  (magam)  with the theme "Blooming Flowers". After thinking and looking for the right fabric and pattern to work with, I chose this beautiful watercolour floral chiffon that I won from Ariation's  giveaway. As the chiffon is transparent, I will lining the dress bodice with jersey net fabric in white color and I will make half slip to cover my lower body. For the pattern, I am using BurdaStyle Smocked Maxi Dress 04/2013 size 34. I have to grade down the pattern because the minimum size from the original pattern is 36. I decided to change the loops and buttons to three little bows or just one bow at the center front. I will see... Also, I will reduce the dress length from maxi to tea length. image source Sewing Process: I cut all the fabric pieces, fashion fabric and lining. Also cut the belt and bias tape for the neckline and armholes. I placed the lining fabric right ...

Sewing In Progress: Frank Button-Down Shirt

I've been busy the last couple days making a men's shirt for my husband. Based on Frank Button-Down Shirt  from Burdastyle Sewing Vintage Modern  pattern. Originally is long sleeve shirt pattern but as summer is around, my husband wanted a short sleeve shirt. Here is the original pattern, Here are my pattern modifications: I want to change long sleeve pattern to short sleeve pattern, so I measured from the middle top of the pattern down to elbow 10 1/4". Then drew the new line using the ruler. I only used one pocket without flap with U shape style pocket. I followed all pattern fitting instructions from the book. I selected size 56, then copied all the pattern pieces (1,2,3,4,5,6,8 and 10) onto transparent paper, added seam allowances for all edges according to the instructions. After I have done the patterns, I made a muslin for a better fit. And I am surprised that only two thing that I have to fix. The collar is to long for my husban...
