DIY V-neck Button Down Linen Dress - Pattern Hack

I was planning to make comfy and loose dress to wear this summer and so happy I finally made it. For the pattern, I used Faitmain shirt dress May 2019 as a base and modified the neckline into v-neck. I always prefer v-neck for summer, it felt comfier and fresh. And for the fabric, I used a floral linen blend from my stash. I bought the fabric from the local shop four years ago, the notion (thread, interfacing and buttons) were from stash too, so I didn't buy anything new to make this dress. After I had all the dress pieces, I modified the front neckline into v-neck by reducing 10 cm down from the CF and drafted a new line toward the shoulder. Here is the pieces, back (on the fold), front (2x), sleeves (2x) and bias tape band from the same fabric 4 cm wide. The sewing process was enjoyable, I did it between my free time and finished the dress in less than three weeks.  I sewed all the pieces together and realized that I should add front and back facings for neater look but I already...

DIY V-neck Tiered Dress

Hello, I made three dresses to wear on my trip to Bangkok during the Easter holiday and this dress is the first one I made. I will share another two in the next posts.  I started working on this dress two weeks before the trip and I'm glad I managed to finish it on time, as well as my other dresses.  This dress was fun and relaxing to sew because I made one before in a midi length, so this time I shortened the length until my knee and sewed it easily. For the fabric, I used a printed rayon from my stash and white cotton lining leftover from my previous make. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted pattern. At first, I didn't want to add the lining but I had to because the fabric was a bit transparent, the lining fabric wasn't enough and I connected the pieces to make the back skirt. Here is the look of the fabric after cutting and the skirt was pieces of a rectangle: the first tiers - front and back, the last tier on the fold ( I forgot to take the p...

Floral Silk Dress

I finally finished my floral silk dress that I was starting to make in March. It took me a long time to finish because I was ill and low sewjo after I recovered. I'm glad after four months of waiting, this dress is finished and I'm happy with the result. I hope I will wear it for dinner out when the lockdown ends.  Four months ago, I was planning to make a silk dress for my entry to Sew Recreate The Look, a challenge on Instagram hosted by Jen and Sharlene. My plan was to recreate a summer v-neck dress with piping detail by Alexander McQuenn. I made a flat sketch as shown below, but in the end, I omitted the flounce at the hemline because I think the dress will suit me better without it. My fabric choice was printed silk charmeuse and silk satin for the lining, I also used black drapey fabric for the bias tape piping. I posted my inspiration and plan  here  and  here . I used a self-drafted pattern for the dress and modified my bas...

V-neck Lace Dress

Happy New Year 2022 everyone, I wish you a safe, healthy, and prosperous new year 💖 On my sewing table at the moment is a Burdastyle blouse with a side knot, I cut the blouse fabric and started sewing on December 17 but I couldn't finish it until today due to the holiday season. So, instead of waiting for the finished blouse to update this blog, I decided to publish the v-neck lace dress that I made at the beginning of December. I posted this lace dress on  my Instagram  last month, the reason why I sew this v-neck dress was to wear it at our 10th wedding anniversary dinner. I finished the dress on time but somehow I think it was missing something in this dress, I tried to add a bow at the waistline and silk overlay at the shoulder but I still didn't like the dress. In the end, I keep this dress for future wear and went to the mall to buy a dress for the anniversary dinner 😁 Well, I love this v-neck dress, simple and the fit was good. The dress has 3/4 sleeves le...
