DIY V-neck Tiered Dress

Image
Hello, I made three dresses to wear on my trip to Bangkok during the Easter holiday and this dress is the first one I made. I will share another two in the next posts.  I started working on this dress two weeks before the trip and I'm glad I managed to finish it on time, as well as my other dresses.  This dress was fun and relaxing to sew because I made one before in a midi length, so this time I shortened the length until my knee and sewed it easily. For the fabric, I used a printed rayon from my stash and white cotton lining leftover from my previous make. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted pattern. At first, I didn't want to add the lining but I had to because the fabric was a bit transparent, the lining fabric wasn't enough and I connected the pieces to make the back skirt. Here is the look of the fabric after cutting and the skirt was pieces of a rectangle: the first tiers - front and back, the last tier on the fold ( I forgot to take the p

Layered Evening Dress

I made this layered dress for a special dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary last week and also for my entry to Magam Details December challenge on Instagram,  link here  to see more photos of the participants.  My first plan was to make a flare dress from Burdastyle pattern but in the end, I didn't like the look of it on me. I was disappointed but I will re-design the Burda dress later when I have time. Soon after that, I decided to sew another dress and I was a little bit nervous because the time was so close, I had only two days to complete it.  I didn't make a muslin as I used to but fortunately, the dress turned out okay and I wore it happily to the dinner.  The dress has a scoop neckline, long sleeve, front layer, and knee-length, inspired by a dress that I saw on the street. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted shift dress pattern and modified the front body to make a layer. I used a kind of crepe fabric in teal color with a little stretch f

Burdastyle 10/2019 Oversized Blouse

I made this oversized blouse last month for my entry to #magamniftynovember challenge on Instagram. I chose to make a nifty (stylish) blouse to wear daily and I was glad that I had all the things needed in my stash. I had 3 yards of linen fabric in pink color and almost matching the color of the buttons, I still had leftover fabric enough to make a sleeveless blouse for summer later. For the pattern, I used Burdastyle oversized blouse 10/2019 size 40. I omitted the back yoke and welt pocket and also, shortened the length by 8 cm. I was planning to take step-by-step pictures of the progress, but I had a busy life and sewing time was whatever free time I had, sometime in the early morning, mid-day, or late night, so the photo quality at night wasn't so good. So, here are a few progress that I took in the daylight, the most tricky step in the blouse-making was sewing the collar, I pinned and basted a lot before sewing it and the result was good and

V-neck Cotton Top

Image
Hello dear readers, I was checking my wardrobe and found out it lacked a simple top to wear daily. So, I decided to make one last month in a yellow batik fabric  detail here on my IG  (in case you are interested to see it). Apparently, one top wasn't enough and I made another in floral cotton fabric last week.  I wore the floral top yesterday for Sunday out with my family, I paired it with me-made denim pants. I love the top, comfortable and easy to wear.  The floral cotton fabric was from my stash and I still have leftover to make another top.    For the pattern, I used my self-drafted basic v-neck top. It has a side front dart, short sleeve and finished neckline with a neck facing with a back button closure.  After I cut the fabric, I sewed the top according to the usual manner and it was easy and fast. I did the top in less than three hours. Here are the results, front, side and back views.

DIY Wrap Swimsuit ( Third Version)

Image
Here is the last garment I made last month, a wrap-style swimsuit made from lycra fabric from my stash. I made two similar swimsuits before and I was happy with the fit. So, I was okay with the process and was sure it would turn out as well as the previous ones.  The process took me two days, just right before our holiday. And I immediately packed it as soon as it finished.  I love this wrap swimsuit, the design hides the fatty tummy and is comfortable to wear for swimming. Also, the wrap style adds something special, so girly and stylish. For the pattern, I used my self-draft (TNT: tried and true pattern) and the sewing process was started by cutting the fabric pieces, sewing the elastic on the front lining and continuing to pin the necessary parts. I prepared the bands for the back ties and the side wrap. Sewing them as a loop and turning them inside out. I pinned and sewed the bands (ties) on the right front piece (wrap) and backside. Stitched the
