Velvet Ribbon

I made a polka dot dress with an a-line skirt last month but it didn't turn out as my plan, so I decided to refashion it into a top with a ruffle peplum. Firstly, I removed the zipper and the skirt. I used the bodices, cut the skirt fabric for the ruffle peplum and kept the rest of the fabric for future make.  For the pattern, I used my self-drafted tank dress with the addition of darts. I made two tank dresses before, the first  and  the second  versions in case you wanted to see them.  The fabric I used: cotton viscose polka dot from the local shop. The collage below was the process of sewing the front bodice. I did the same for the back bodice except inserted the rings to connect the ties later. After I cut the pieces for the ruffle peplum, I gathered it using big stitches with my sewing machine, pulled the thread and attached the fabric to the bodice right sides together. Hi friends, I hope you are well. I was participating Me-Made-May 2021 and this year is my ninth year of participating, it was a fabulous and fun challenge. I completed the challenge and followed my pledge, wearing only me-made garments and refashioned during the whole month of May.  The picture above is the collage of the garments I wore last month. Most of them are old makes except the denim a-line skirt and a purple t-shirt that I made  in April , a pink cotton dress that I made  in the middle of May and two t-shirts in aqua blue and white I made recently.  Also, I managed to mend my two old dresses, skirt and refashioned my RTW long rectangle scarf into another scarf. Glad I did, they fit me better now.  Besides had fun and met like-minded people, I learned more about sewing and got some inspiration for future projects. I finished the denim skirt and purple t-shirt yesterday and I'm happy that they will be a great addition to my summer wardrobe. My first plan was to make only the a-line denim skirt for my entry to Sew Your Wardrobe Basics challenge hosted by Sea Of Teal  but I decided to make a t-shirt to wear with it. The t-shirt was a quick make, I did it in two hours because I used my TNT (tried and true) pattern. For both garments, I used my self-drafted patterns and the fabrics were from my stash and leftover from my previous top. The A-line skirt pattern based on my basic skirt sloper, I followed a Youtube tutorial from Kim Dave Design  link here  and then I modified it to an A-line Skirt by adding 3.5 cm in the bottom sides of the skirt pieces and draft a new line to the hipline. I made a shirt for my husband to wear at work, I started sewing the shirt last month and finished at the beginning of this month. It was slow progress but glad that it turned out as my plan. For the pattern, I used Ottobre Design 07/2017 Men's shirt size 56. I was lucky I found this magazine on our last trip to Portugal. Well, I miss traveling and hope this pandemic will be over and we all can travel again. The fabric I used for this shirt was cotton shirting in light pink from the local shop and stayed inside my stash for a while. So, I was happy that I finally made it into a shirt that my husband will wear.   The original pattern was long sleeves shirt with two different types of pockets, one with flap pockets and another without flaps. But in this case, I changed the shape of the pocket and used one side only. Also, I made it in short sleeves by cut the sleeve length above the elbow. Hello fellow sewists, I made a cardigan and t-shirt for my entry in Instagram sewing challenge  #cosycardichallenge , both garments are based on Simplicity pattern 8059 size xs for the cardigan and xxs for the t-shirt. I was planning to make the cardigan only but decided to make the t-shirt after I finished because I don't have a matching t-shirt to wear with it. Luckily that the pattern came in five different models and one of them is a asymmetrical tunic that was easy to modify to a simple v-neck tee.
