Velvet Ribbon

Hello friends, I made another cotton dress to wear every day. Summer is finally here and it's very hot and humid, so this dress will be a great addition to my wardrobe. For the fabric, I used two yards of cotton shirting in red and white stripes. This fabric was inside my stash for a while, I bought it on sale in the local shop. I used my self-drafted for the pattern (based on my dress sloper block from Basic Pattern Making book by Lucia Mors de Castro). I made the first version of this dress in gingham print but instead of a gathered skirt like this striped dress, I used a pleated skirt,  link here from my IG . My first plan was to make this dress for my entry to "April Ahoy" #magamsewalong challenge hosted by Sue  and Suzy , but I was so busy with other things. I managed to cut the fabric in April but finished in May. And gladly that Suzy suggested to me that this dress will work fine for "May-be Menswear" because I used men's shirting fabric. ...

I made a patchwork dress for my entry to  #magamsewalong  challenge on Instagram. The progress was very relaxing and I did it slowly, one hour every day in my free time and glad after two and half weeks I finished my dress.  After searching for inspiration on Pinterest, I decided to make a simple dress with a v-neck and short sleeves. For the fabric, I reused the fabric from my two old favourite dresses that don't fit me anymore and leftover scrap.  Joyful sweetheart dress  and  sleeveless dress with bow My sewing progress started with cutting all the fabrics into square and rectangle shapes, mixed the prints, pinned and sewed them together. After that, I sewed the raw edges using an overlocker machine and pressed them with an iron. The result was 1.5 m x 95 cm that was enough for me to make a short sleeves dress. Hello friends, I made another self-drafted dress with a ruffle hem last month. This dress is the second version of the pattern and I changed the round neck into a v-neck. You can see the first version here . For the fabric, I used cotton poplin that I bought recently in the local shop and the sewing notion (threads, fusible interfacing and invisible zipper) were from stash. After I modified the round neck into a v-neck, I omitted the vertical darts on the front side and made the dress a little flare at the bottom and then I cut the length far above the knee (25 cm), as shown below in the red mark. I made the neck facings and the rectangle shape for the ruffle hem (25 cm wide x 165 cm long).  The sewing process was fast, I finished it in one morning after I cut the fabric and fusible interfacing for the neck facings and zipper line the day before. I made this dress last month and I wore it twice since the day I finished it, the picture above was taken before swimming and I wore this dress for lunch and dinner outside as well. I love everything about this dress, especially the fit. Not too tight or too loose and I can wear this on any occasion, I just need to change the shoes and accessories 😊  Dress description: It has a v-neckline with three decorative buttons, short sleeves, knee-length, invisible zipper inserted at the center back, a little loose and flare style. I made this dress in the end of last month as my entry to "Join Up July" #magamsewalong challenge in Instagram hosted by Sue, Helene and Suzy.  My plan was to sew a simple and classy colour block dress to wear for dinner out or special occasion.  I used my self-drafted dress pattern, based on basic dress slopers that I drew in May. I changed the dart position, omitted the sleeves and changed the neckline shape. My fabrics were cotton blend in black and Indonesian batik that I bought locally.  I used the batik for one side at the front only and used black cotton blend for the rest.  The dress has zipper in the center back, two darts in the front, two darts in the back, finished the neckline with facings and the armhole with me-made bias tape in black.
