DIY Puff Sleeve Gingham Top With Ruffle Hem

Image
Happy Monday, friends. I made a new summer top using gingham fabric and a self-drafted pattern. The top is simple, featuring puff sleeves, a round neckline, and a ruffled hem. I decided to make it to fill a gap in my summer wardrobe. The fabric is cotton, which is perfect for wearing in our humid and hot summer. This picture was taken yesterday, and we went for a Sunday walk at the mall. I wore the top with my old and trusted denim pants.  I bought this gingham cotton fabric as a souvenir from our trip to Singapore last year and I'm happy I finally made a top with it. And I still have enough leftover to make another top. The pattern was self-drafted and I made two tops using the same pattern before.  The front bodice with darts and the back does not have a dart for comfort.  The sewing process was fast and enjoyable. I sewed the darts on the front bodice. And then, I clipped and sewed the zipper on the back bodice pi...

Colour Block Dress

I made this dress in the end of last month as my entry to "Join Up July" #magamsewalong challenge in Instagram hosted by Sue, Helene and Suzy.
My plan was to sew a simple and classy colour block dress to wear for dinner out or special occasion.
I used my self-drafted dress pattern, based on basic dress slopers that I drew in May. I changed the dart position, omitted the sleeves and changed the neckline shape.

My fabrics were cotton blend in black and Indonesian batik that I bought locally.
I used the batik for one side at the front only and used black cotton blend for the rest.
The dress has zipper in the center back, two darts in the front, two darts in the back, finished the neckline with facings and the armhole with me-made bias tape in black.

The progress was fast, I started with sewing the front piece - connected the two fabrics together and, sewed the darts and then the shoulder lines together.
I sewed the zipper, neck facing and then top-stitched the facing by hand and sewed the bias tape around the armhole and top-stitches around using the sewing machine.
I really love how it turned out, the fit is just right for my liking. And the fabric combination is perfect.

Here is the inner look of the facing and armhole binding, both sewed by sewing machine and hand. Also I basted them before sewing to avoid uneven stitches.

That's it for today, I sewed a few more garments
last month and I'm not going to share each of them here just the collage. Please feel free to check my Instagram @velvetribbon_sews for more details.
