Easy Tote Bags (Sewing Project For Beginners)
Hi there, I made two tote bags using cute cat-printed home decor fabrics. These tote bags are easy and fast to make, a perfect sewing project for beginner sewists. The final size is approximately 34 cm long x 34 cm wide and 9 cm deep. The size is enough to carry books or shopping stuff. The process started with cutting the fabric, - The tote bag's body: 42 cm long x 38 cm wide (on fold). - Handle: 62 cm long x 8 cm wide (2x). - Bias tape band 4 cm wide. Fold the fabric right sides together and sew both sides. And then, clip and sew the bias tape band to secure the fabric (to avoid fraying). Cut the corners, 3 cm x 3cm square, after the seam allowance. Sew the corner and secure it with bias tape band ( both sides). Here is the look after I sew the corners. I work on the handles by folding them in half and then clip the seam allowance 1 cm inside. Fold the seam allowance 1 cm inside and fold the fabr...
Very pretty Hana. Looks even better on you than it does on the dressform. Thank you for sharing that the bodice and skirt do not fit exactly at the centre back but you can live with it by covering it with a belt. I find it's too easy to focus in on the imperfections of things I have made but the fact is no one else notices except for me and simply things like wearing a belt not only hide the problem but make a better garment.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tracy. I was mad when I saw the imperfection on the back, but anyway... I let it go and found the belt solution :) :)
DeleteI love your pretty dress, Hana. The fabric is so fresh and spring like and the style suits you beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy. I love the color very much and now time to search my stash for April garment :)
DeleteBeautiful dress Hana, very pretty fabric. I'm intrigued by the darts on a princess seam - never seen that before x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amanda. BurdaStyle sometime have unusual pattern and I also never seen that darts before.
DeleteAfter sewn this dress, I feel that the darts added more volume on the front bodice :)
What a lovely, pretty dress! Your alterations and modifications all came together for a perfect fit.
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a lovely comment, Lisa :)

ReplyDeleteThank you, Stars. Can not wait to see your finished April garment :)
DeleteOh Hana that is just so lovely. And I am glad that you added the photo of you wearing it because it really shows to full potential.
ReplyDeleteIf you are interested, I use this method for invisible zip. I find it helps when needing to match up seams.
