DIY Batik Shirt - Ottobre Design Pattern

Image
Hi there, I'm back from our summer holiday in Bangkok and we had a great time. I hope your summer holiday was enjoyable. As usual, I made new dresses for the holiday but will show you the dresses later. For now, I will show you a batik shirt I made for my husband. The shirt was his birthday present and I was glad he loved it. He got the batik from my mom last year, a typical Indonesian batik with a combination of black and brown. For the pattern, I used Ottobre Design Four Fellows shirt, size 54. I made this pattern before in a short sleeve and this time I made the hemline straight. After I cut all the pieces and fused the interfacing on the collar pieces, I started working on the shirt according to the usual manner. It was an enjoyable process, especially since cotton fabric was easy to work with. The only tricky one was sewing the collar and attaching it to the neckline. I did a lot of pinning and basting to get a neat result. I uploaded a video of the making of this shirt and al

Floral Slip Dress

I made a new floral slip dress using a yard of leftover cotton fabric and a self-drafted pattern. The sewing process was fun, I did this dress for six hours in total during my free time in three days, which is not bad 😊
The dress was finished with straps and adjusters, knee length, and finished the neckline with facings.
The only problem was that the fabric needed to be more to make the whole dress and I decided to make the back bottom dress using leftover pieces sewn together. It worked, nobody noticed it because of the busy floral print.

This dress is my entry to Magamsewalong #magamjammingjune challenge on Instagram. Thank you for hosting Sue , Suzy and Nic ðŸ’—

Here is the look of my self-drafted pattern, I made this slip dress three times or more before. A good TNT pattern 😊

My fabric wasn't enough for the whole back dress, so I added leftover pieces sewn together for the back bottom dress.

Nobody noticed the joined line because of the busy floral print, except when close-up, especially in the right side of the dress.

I sewed the straps between the facing and the dress, then turned it out. I love the neat look of the front dress.

I sewed the rest according to the usual manner and the only extra work was to sew the adjusters to the straps.

The dress was done after I sewed the hemline, I used a blind hem method, which is easy and fast.
I'm glad I decided to use this leftover cotton fabric, the zipper and other notions were from my stash.

Also, I updated my YouTube channel about the making of this dress. Here is the link in case you are interested in watching cozy sewing vlog - floral slip dress or simply click the video below,
