Lace Long Sleeve Flowy Blouse

Image
I'm finally back to writing on this blog after being busy for two months, I still sew some small items and mend a few clothes but haven't sewn new clothes.  Until two days before Valentine's arrived, I felt like I had to sew a new blouse to wear to dinner. The blouse had to be in the shade of pink, so I checked my stash and found 2 yards of lace fabric in fuchsia that I don't remember when I bought it. After I had the fabric, I started making the pattern (based on my previous self-drafted blouse pattern) I modified the pattern into a flowy blouse. The pattern was simple, a round neckline, gathered front and back yokes and gathered sleeves with elastic bands. Here is the pattern that I drafted, And after the pattern was done, I cut the fabric as usual. The sewing process was fun and turned out to be easier than I imagined. I sewed the neckline front and back yokes and then attached them to the gathered bodices as shown below. After that, I sewed the shoulder lines togeth

DIY Swimsuits

I made two swimsuits and so happy with how they turned out.
The first version in purple was finished in the beginning of the month, I posted a video in my Instagram and the second one in orange with addition of wrap design finished on Sunday, the day before we started our staycation.

Besides two swimsuits, I managed to sew two dresses for myself and one shirt for dear husband. I will share the details of each garment in the later posts.

These two swimsuits are part of my 2020 Make Nine and my entry to Magam Sew Along August in Instagram.

For the purple swimsuit, I used medium weight jersey knit from the local shop and pattern was self-drafted.
It has a simple design, v-neck in the front and deep v-back that in the end became U-shape 😄 I think because the fabric stretched.

Pattern details:
Back: cut two pieces on the fold ( for outer and lining).
Front: cut two pieces on the fold ( for outer and lining).
Upper front lining: cut one piece on the fold, I will add elastic and insert the foam bra pads later.

The progress started with cut the fabric.
Sewed the elastic band on the upper front lining, sewed both sides opening to insert the foam cup bra later. And then attached the upper front lining to the bodice front lining.
Sewed the opening area where the foam cup bra stay.
After that, I sewed the lining and outer fabric right sides together. Clipped the curve areas and turned out.
Sewed the shoulders together, also pinned and sewed the bottom connection and the ⁹sides using an overlocker sewing machine.
Top-stitched the neckline, armholes and the bottoms using the zig-zag stitch.
Trimmed the excess fabric and done.

Here are the finished purple swimsuit with the closer look of the inside and outside.

I wore it two times during our staycation in the local hotel and I love the fit.

And here is the look of the pattern pieces for my orange swimsuit. I modified the previous pattern into wrap style swimsuit. My inspiration came from Pinterest and I'm glad that I managed to make it.
I used the same fabric for the outer and the lining. The fabric was Lycra that I bought from the local shop.

Pattern details:
Wrap: cut two pieces (for outer and lining).
Upper front lining: cut two pieces.
Front: cut two pieces (for outer and lining).
Back: cut two pieces on the fold (for outer and lining).
Added ties for the wrap and waist. Also another ties for the back because the U-shape was gaping. The size of the ties were 2.5 cm wide and 40 cm long, I made four ties.

The sewing progress was a little tricky because of more pieces to sew.
I sewed the upper front lining first, sewed the sides opening and the elastic band.
And then sewed the upper front lining to the front lining and the wrap lining.
Pinned and sewed the lining and the bodice right sides together. But before that sewed the ties to the wrap and waistline.
Sewed the shoulders together.
Sewed the bottom connection together
Pinned and sewed the sides.
As I found out the U-back was gaping, I sewed the ties in both sides. 😊
Top-stitched the neckline, armhole and bottom sides using the zig-zag stitch.
Trimmed the excess fabric and done.

I wore this orange swimsuit three times, the fit was good but I'd love to lower the bottom area 1.5 cm more if I make this again.

We had fun and relaxed staycation. Also, celebrating two anniversaries of the family ❤🎂🎊

The last picture was taken in the last day, I was wearing my orange wrap swimsuit with bathing cover suit that I sewed a few year back.

Happy sewing ✂️🧵❤

  1. I really like both of these swimsuits, and I particularly like the wrap with tie. I admire your skills.

  2. You made two lovely swimsuits, Hana! The wrap-tie is my favorite though. You are so clever with inserting the cups without any visibility when wearing it. It was a good Idea adding the back ties, too. Did you reinforce the neckline and leg holes with swimwear elastic?

  3. @PaisleyPirouette Thank you so much, Sasa. Our local shop didn't have stock of elastic for swimwear, so I just skip it.
I just flipped the seam allowances at the neckline, armholes and leg holes inside and sew it using zig zag stitch. I pulled the fabric a little while sewing and glad it worked.
