Lace Long Sleeve Flowy Blouse

Image
I'm finally back to writing on this blog after being busy for two months, I still sew some small items and mend a few clothes but haven't sewn new clothes.  Until two days before Valentine's arrived, I felt like I had to sew a new blouse to wear to dinner. The blouse had to be in the shade of pink, so I checked my stash and found 2 yards of lace fabric in fuchsia that I don't remember when I bought it. After I had the fabric, I started making the pattern (based on my previous self-drafted blouse pattern) I modified the pattern into a flowy blouse. The pattern was simple, a round neckline, gathered front and back yokes and gathered sleeves with elastic bands. Here is the pattern that I drafted, And after the pattern was done, I cut the fabric as usual. The sewing process was fun and turned out to be easier than I imagined. I sewed the neckline front and back yokes and then attached them to the gathered bodices as shown below. After that, I sewed the shoulder lines togeth

Colour Block Marua Tunic Dress

This dress is my second version of S1033 Marua Tunic - My Image pattern #15 with modification. As I mentioned in my first version, the original pattern was asymmetrical hemline tunic which I changed to normal hem and lengthen a little until my knee, also lower the neckline 1.5 cm and made full arm adjustment. And in this second version, I shorten the sleeve length until just the top of my elbow. Also, add the colour block in black knit cotton because I only have one yard of printed knit. Glad that I have black knit scrap in stash that is matching well with the print, otherwise I will go to fabric shop to buy the new piece.

I found this medium weight printed knit in local fabric shop last week and it was on sale. I bought two pieces, the second fabric is flowery print in black and purple which I am planning to make another summer dress soon.
The sewing process was almost like the first version, except that I have to cut the upper bodice in two to create colour block effect. I really love the colour block, it makes the plain tunic dress more special. I also love the loose fit on this dress, so airy and perfect to wear in our hot weather. No zipper inserted on this dress (bonus), easy to pull in and out.

I decided to use the knit print for the neckband and really love how the print pop out over the black colour. I used 5 cm wide band x the length around the neckline in my case is 63 cm, I used the same amount around the neckline because the fabric has a little stretch. Finished the neckband by top stitched with twin needle. Sleeve and hemline sewed with twin needle as well with 2 cm allowances.
One more picture of me wearing the dress, today is day 19 of Me Made May 2018 and I am glad that I only repeat the garment once. I am enjoying mmmay'18 so far but I am a little upset that most of my old clothes don't fit on me due to gaining weight. Anyway, I will survive 😁
That's it for today post friends, hope you have a lovely weekend 💕
