Midi Dress With Puff Sleeves And Front Tie

Image
Hi there, today's post is about a new dress I sewed last month. It's a midi-style dress with puff sleeves and a front tie. I made this dress to wear to a special dinner. For the pattern: I lengthened my selfdrafted v-neck dress into midi length. And for the fabric, I used a linen blend in green color. I bought the fabric in Bangkok during my summer holiday in August. The dress pattern had 6 pieces, front and back darts and I fused the facings with fusible interfacing. As usual, the sewing process was relaxing and it finished faster than I planned. The picture below shows the process of sewing the zipper, I pinned it before sewing it using the zipper foot. To make the puff sleeves, I gathered the sleeves before pinning and sewing them to the armhole.  After attaching the sleeves, I sewed the sleeve allowance 1 cm and the hem allowance 1.5 cm. And then, I pinned the neckline before top-stitching it. I decided

March 2018 Garments

This dress was made last month for my entry to "Mad March - make a dress" #magamsewalong hosted by Sarah Liz Sew Style. After thinking and selecting the fabric and pattern, I decided to try Diana dress S1034 from my image pattern. Diana dress has nice pleats at the front neckline, long sleeves and simple shape of shift dress but sadly I didn't like the final pleats on me after I tried the muslin (I posted the picture on My Instagram).
And instead of making one more muslin and solve the pleat issues, I changed the pattern. I chose another pattern from My Image, Marua Tunic dress S1033 size 36. The original pattern of Marua has asymmetrical hemline and finished the neckline with facing but I modified it to my liking, regular hemline and finished neckline with a band.

It was easy to modify this pattern, I just omitted the asymmetrical hem and made a new line of hemline but beware if you are tall, this tunic is too short for you. But as I am petite, the length just fine for me.
For the neckline, I decided to lower 1.5 cm because it was a little high for my liking. Also, I made full arm adjustment on the sleeves.

Fabrics I used for this dress were Daisy print in black and white knit jersey that I bought during our visit to London last year and black rib knit from stash for neckband.

The process of making this dress was very quick, I used an overlocker for almost all edges, except the neckband but I used twin needle to top stitch.
The sleeves and hem were sewn with twin needle as well.

I also made a t-shirt based on this pattern, I just cut the length until middle of my hip and shorten the sleeves. I used leftover fabric from previous garments in green knit and used black rib knit for neckband.

And I was glad that I wore both dress and t-shirt during my trip to Taipei. Picture below was taken in the Elephant Mountain where I can see a lovely view of Taipei 101.

Before I say goodbye, I want to show you my bomber jacket that I made to wear on trip. Pattern from Burdastyle double buttons bomber jacket 04/2017 view A. I like the jacket and wore it a lot during the trip but I didn't sew the pockets due limited time. I will make another one soon in other colour than grey and will sew the pockets and add the lining 😊
Happy Sewing!

Love,

  7. What a lovely array of garments - the dress is very pretty, the t-shirt smart, and as for the bomber jacket - somehow you have managed to make this look very smart too. I am not really a fan of bomber jackets, but yours looks great.
