DIY Puff Sleeve Gingham Top With Ruffle Hem

Happy Monday, friends. I made a new summer top using gingham fabric and a self-drafted pattern. The top is simple, featuring puff sleeves, a round neckline, and a ruffled hem. I decided to make it to fill a gap in my summer wardrobe. The fabric is cotton, which is perfect for wearing in our humid and hot summer. This picture was taken yesterday, and we went for a Sunday walk at the mall. I wore the top with my old and trusted denim pants.  I bought this gingham cotton fabric as a souvenir from our trip to Singapore last year and I'm happy I finally made a top with it. And I still have enough leftover to make another top. The pattern was self-drafted and I made two tops using the same pattern before.  The front bodice with darts and the back does not have a dart for comfort.  The sewing process was fast and enjoyable. DIY Friday : Doll Outfits

I made two doll outfits yesterday :)
I have this doll inside my stash box for two and a half years. I bought her in the flea market when I visited Portugal and I think she is a Barbie doll because her size is 11.5" but too bad that her hair was dyed in pinky blonde :(

Pattern:
Self-drafted pattern.


The picture below is my pattern pieces, top (8cm long on fold) - gathered skirt (waistband : 12cm x 4cm and square shape skirt 26 cm x 16cm) and maxi dress (22cm long on fold, the dress has middle front and back darts). All the measurements are including 0.7 cm seam allowances.


Materials:
All the fabrics are scraps
Top : knit cotton in deep purple color
Skirt : floral stretch cotton
Dress : knit cotton in green color
Threads and snap fasteners

The sewing process was fun but a little bit tricky because they were very small garments.
For the top I leave the neckline without stitching. Sleeves and hem allowances were 1 cm.
For the gathered skirt, I sew the skirt hem using zig-zag stitch and sew two snap fasteners on the skirt back


For the maxi dress, I sew the middle front and back darts. Sew sleeves allowances 1 cm. Leave the neckline and hem line without stitching. And used the leather cord as her belt :)

One more picture of her wearing the maxi dress. In the end I cut the green knit fabric in a triangle shaped and used it as a hair tie.  It matched so well with the dress and the belt :)

    What cute outfits. I learnt to sew by making clothes for my Barbie doll, so I am a little partial to admiring other people's hand made Barbie clothes. She probably needed a new wardrobe if you found her in a market - she will be pleased :)

    Clever girl. I made a wardrobe for my grand-daughter's Barbie a few years ago, but I used a Vogue craft pattern for vintage 50's designs. Yes those teeny tiny seams are very tricky. The photos are on the Barbie Wardrobe page of my blog. Your self-drafted clothes are lovely, I may borrow your designs for my own Barbie who could do with a change of clothes. :)

    Your Barbie looks beautiful in her new clothes! I still have the Barbie clothes my grandmother made for my Barbie. Sometimes she would make matching dresses for me and my Barbie too. Great job on your drafting. Either of those outfits would be a beautiful garment for an adult to wear!
