DIY Puff Sleeve Gingham Top With Ruffle Hem

Image
Happy Monday, friends. I made a new summer top using gingham fabric and a self-drafted pattern. The top is simple, featuring puff sleeves, a round neckline, and a ruffled hem. I decided to make it to fill a gap in my summer wardrobe. The fabric is cotton, which is perfect for wearing in our humid and hot summer. This picture was taken yesterday, and we went for a Sunday walk at the mall. I wore the top with my old and trusted denim pants.  I bought this gingham cotton fabric as a souvenir from our trip to Singapore last year and I'm happy I finally made a top with it. And I still have enough leftover to make another top. The pattern was self-drafted and I made two tops using the same pattern before.  The front bodice with darts and the back does not have a dart for comfort.  The sewing process was fast and enjoyable. I sewed the darts on the front bodice. And then, I clipped and sewed the zipper on the back bodice pi...

DIY Denim Skirt - Sewing A Capsule Wardrobe Part 1

Hi there, I made a new denim skirt using leftover fabric from my previous project. I'm glad I finished this skirt on time when the hot weather arrived.
I was planning to sew a capsule wardrobe for summer and happy that I finally started. I was confused about what I should sew first. And I saw a leftover denim fabric, so I decided to make a skirt first.

My capsule wardrobe will be something simple to wear daily. I will make skirts, tops, and pants. And I will use the stashed fabrics first, we will see...

For the skirt pattern, I used Burdastyle zippered front midi skirt pattern 12/2019 size 40.
I shortened the length above my knee by 12 cm, shortened the pocket length by 7 cm, and changed the zipper to the center back.
I also added 1.5 cm at the sides, according to my waistline.

The sewing process started with the back skirt. I sewed the darts.

I sewed the pocket pieces, pinned the pockets to the front skirt, and sewed them.

Pinned and sewed the front and back skirt together.

I sewed the center back together and then laid the zipper on it. Pinned and sewn using a zipper foot on the right side.

After that, I attached the waistband to the waistline, pinned and sewed it.

I folded the waistband's allowance inside, pinned, and stitched it.

I hand-sewed the snap buttons in both ends of the waistband.

The last step was sewing the hemline 2 cm.
