DIY V-neck Tiered Dress

Image
Hello, I made three dresses to wear on my trip to Bangkok during the Easter holiday and this dress is the first one I made. I will share another two in the next posts.  I started working on this dress two weeks before the trip and I'm glad I managed to finish it on time, as well as my other dresses.  This dress was fun and relaxing to sew because I made one before in a midi length, so this time I shortened the length until my knee and sewed it easily. For the fabric, I used a printed rayon from my stash and white cotton lining leftover from my previous make. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted pattern. At first, I didn't want to add the lining but I had to because the fabric was a bit transparent, the lining fabric wasn't enough and I connected the pieces to make the back skirt. Here is the look of the fabric after cutting and the skirt was pieces of a rectangle: the first tiers - front and back, the last tier on the fold ( I forgot to take the p

Refashioned Blouse

Hello fellow sewists, I decided to refashion my two old garments ( Summer Dress and Long Sleeve Blouse) into a new summer top with ruffle sleeve. The fabric is cotton lawn, I bought it as a souvenir from Seoul- South Korea three years ago.

Pattern I used for this blouse: Simplicity 8454 Misses Tops with Sleeve and Flounce Variations view D size 8, modified the 3/4 sleeve with flounce into a short sleeve with ruffle and skip the hem flounce. Also, I lengthen the bodice until the middle of my hips.
I made my first version of this pattern last month in yellow Japanese cotton fabric but I didn't blog about it but I will show you at the end of this post.

The process of making was enjoyable, it started with cut the old garments at the seam allowances and press them with iron.
I'm glad that the piece of fabrics was enough for the blouse but I have to make the back side in four pieces instead of one piece (on the fold) as the original pattern suggested.
After I had all the pieces, I sewed them in the usual manner. I raised the bust darts 1.5 cm because they were too low for me. I lowered the neckline 1.5 cm as well.
The neckline finished with neckband using the same fabric, I sewed the band right sides together, folded to the inner side and hand stitched the band into the fashion fabric. And then I sewed two small snap buttons for back neck closing.

The size of the ruffle was 12 x 65 cm (included 1.5 cm seam allowances) cut 2 times. I did rolled hem stitch at the edge of the ruffle piece, gathered and sewed to the sleeve. As shown below.
The hem allowance was 2 cm, sewed with blind hem stitch.

And as promised, here are some pictures of the first version of Simplicity 8454 (modified) in yellow printed Japanese cotton, fabric was a souvenir from Japan and pattern was a gift from dear SIL.

I decided to add a little slit at the middle of the sleeve hem and the rest were the same as the second blouse.
And here are the progress on how to sew the slit.

That's it for today, happy sewing 💗
