Lace Long Sleeve Flowy Blouse

Image
I'm finally back to writing on this blog after being busy for two months, I still sew some small items and mend a few clothes but haven't sewn new clothes.  Until two days before Valentine's arrived, I felt like I had to sew a new blouse to wear to dinner. The blouse had to be in the shade of pink, so I checked my stash and found 2 yards of lace fabric in fuchsia that I don't remember when I bought it. After I had the fabric, I started making the pattern (based on my previous self-drafted blouse pattern) I modified the pattern into a flowy blouse. The pattern was simple, a round neckline, gathered front and back yokes and gathered sleeves with elastic bands. Here is the pattern that I drafted, And after the pattern was done, I cut the fabric as usual. The sewing process was fun and turned out to be easier than I imagined. I sewed the neckline front and back yokes and then attached them to the gathered bodices as shown below. After that, I sewed the shoulder lines togeth

Bomber Jacket

I made a bomber jacket last month and this is my second version from Burdastyle Double Button Bomber Jacket 04/2017 size 36. I used knit fabric in Dahlia print and lightweight knit in brown colour for the lining. The original pattern doesn't include the lining but I decided to go with it for more professional look.
This lightweight bomber jacket is my entry for sewing challenges in Instagram: " Alternative April" #magamsewalong hosted by Sarah Liz Sew Style#burdachallenge2018 for April hosted by saturdaynightstitch and #2018makenine second garment hosted by homerowfiberco.

When Sarah Liz published the April's theme, I immediately thought of bomber jacket. I am not a fan of this type of jacket before but I changed my mind as I saw so many people wearing it. And after I made my first jacket last month, I want to make more because it feels so comfy, is stylish and on trend 😊

I had at least four different bomber jacket patterns but I wanted to try the one from Burdastyle 04/2017 first because of the double button. The pattern suggested snap buttons which I don't have and thinking to search the local shop for both the tool (pliers) and snap buttons. But I was really lucky that dear husband was in Japan and I asked him to look for them and he found both and even bought a sewing book for me. How sweet..

Well, the process of sewing this jacket started with sew the welt-pockets and I was glad that the Burdastyle tutorial that came in 04/2017 magazine was easy to follow and I don't have any doubt. After the welt pockets done, I sew the lining and the fashion fabric separately. Then attached them together, basted, sew the hem and sleeve bands directly on both lining and fashion fabric. Then I sew the front bands and neckband.
After all the process above done, I attached the snap buttons. I even published a video on my Instagram.

As the colour of the sockets and studs are in white colour, I have to paint them in black nail polish mix with deep red to match the jacket print. I hope the paint will stay as it is because I fear that they will come out during snapping in and out.
Here is the final jacket on Ellie my dress-form which you can see the right side of the jacket and the lining. I am happy with the result.
And the look of the jacket on me, back and front views.

Also, I made a new white v-neck t-shirt to wear with the jacket. I used my TNT pattern, modified Simplicity 8059 tunic pattern to a simple t-shirt. I think this is version number 8 and I will make more 😊 The fabric is medium weight of knit cotton, left-over from other garment.
Okay, before I say good bye for today post, I'd love to show you one more picture of me wearing the white v-neck t-shirt and me made jeans. Picture was taken on Sunday in Macau Tower for Me Made May 2018 day 6, the bridge far in back is Nam Van bridge.
Speaking about MMMay'18, we are in day 8 today and I am glad to participate again this year and I will publish the round-up of the whole month challenge here in the blog, besides you can see my everyday outfit for MMMay'18 in my Instagram and #mmmay'18 for the whole participants.

Happy Sewing! 💗
