Lace Long Sleeve Flowy Blouse

Image
I'm finally back to writing on this blog after being busy for two months, I still sew some small items and mend a few clothes but haven't sewn new clothes.  Until two days before Valentine's arrived, I felt like I had to sew a new blouse to wear to dinner. The blouse had to be in the shade of pink, so I checked my stash and found 2 yards of lace fabric in fuchsia that I don't remember when I bought it. After I had the fabric, I started making the pattern (based on my previous self-drafted blouse pattern) I modified the pattern into a flowy blouse. The pattern was simple, a round neckline, gathered front and back yokes and gathered sleeves with elastic bands. Here is the pattern that I drafted, And after the pattern was done, I cut the fabric as usual. The sewing process was fun and turned out to be easier than I imagined. I sewed the neckline front and back yokes and then attached them to the gathered bodices as shown below. After that, I sewed the shoulder lines togeth

Megan Draper Dress From Mad Men TV Show

Hi everyone,
I finished my Megan dress yesterday - exactly on the deadline of Mad Men Dress Challenge 3 but I couldn't publish my project in the blog. I took some pictures last night but the result wasn't so clear, so I took pictures again today and publish it as soon as I finished.

My dress is inspired by Megan Draper 60's style yellow dress, but I made some changes according to my own style,
  • Make the dress length a little bit longer
  • Sewn 6 buttons on the skirt front flap instead of 4 buttons
  •  The belt finished with snap-fasteners in the back side of the dress

As I couldn't find any plain yellow fabric in my local shop, I bought 2.5 yards medium crepe fabric in very deep pink ( the fabric has shiny part in one side and hard in the other side) according to the shop owner I can use both side of fabric. I used the shiny one facing inside.
And for the skirt flap lining, I used silk polyester fabric.

For the pattern, I used Vogue 8228 with modifications. The original pattern has front slits on the neckline and the end of the dress skirt front at the center, I just connected the center dress front. Then I added skirt  front flap and self-made belt. Here are a little bit details of my sewing process,
back and front pieces

For the skirt front flap, I copied the center front skirt panel on a new sheet of paper. Started 3 cm above the waist line to the end of the center front skirt, and then I added 1.5 cm on both side right and left side.
I sew the skirt flap and the lining right sides facing- on the skirt top and sides only - leave the bottom open, turn it inside out. Press it with iron and hand sewn the bottom.

I hand sewn the skirt flap bottom

I sew 4 cm wide belt from the same fabric x 84 cm long. Then I sew the belt on the top of the flap with my sewing machine, sew the buttons and snap fasteners.

And the last work is hand sewn the hem. Done!

Happy sewing and have a wonderful Wednesday to you all!

  10. I'm glad I popped over - I had no idea you had just finished a dress :). It looks gorgeous - the colour and the style both suit you well. I agree with everyone, the pink works so nicely on you, I think better than the yellow would have done.

    1. I was so busy during the whole month of March that didn't allowed me to publish my plan for this dress. And I was lucky that I don't need to make a muslin because I used the same pattern as my blue linen dress that I made for Magam challenge.
Thank you so much for compliments :-)
