Sewing A Travel Wardrobe : Square Neck Dress
Hi there, I went on a holiday to Singapore with my husband and son and had a fantastic time. We loved Singapore, it is such a great place to visit. The food was delicious, and also managed to visit fabric stores. I made two new dresses (of course) using stashed fabrics and notions. Today, I'll show you the square-neck dress and another dress in a separate post. I made three versions of the square-neck dress before, but this time I made it with puff sleeves. The pattern was self-drafted and the fabric was African printed cotton that was inside my stash for a while. The sewing process was fast, I fused the zipper line and facings with fusible interfacing before starting to sew. It made the job easier. I sew the zipper and the shoulder lines. Sewed the facings together and attached them to the neckline. Gathered the sleeves, pinned and sewed them to the armholes. Sewed the sides, sleeves hems and hemline. Love those colours and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Are you placing the print on the outside? Or centre panel?
ReplyDeleteHi Belinda! I love those colors too very much. I am placing the print fabric on the center panel :)
DeleteHappy sewing and wish you a lovely weekend!
Thanks, you too. I have 2 new dresses to put up on flickr next week. I was wondering, how long does fabric need to be in the stash for it to qualify as a stash bust? I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I rarely buy fabric for a special purpose. I just buy when I see fabric I like, so does that mean I'm always topping up my stash?
DeleteOhh... I can not wait to see your two new dresses :) I am sure they both are pretty :)
DeleteIn my opinion and some people agree with me, I will call the fabric stash when I buy the fabric without any special purpose and stay inside stash box minimum 3 months.
And you are not alone, I am trying to control my self from buying new fabrics but I can not. So, my stashes are growing and some of the fabrics are in the bottom line for more than three years. That's scary!
Hana, I love your fabrics.. This will be a really cute top.. Can't wait to see it..Happy sewing.

DeleteHi Hana, I've been away for a few days, so have just got to your post. The fabrics are gorgeous, and I think they will work well for the top. And stash does grow and grow - the more you try and stop, the more it grows :)
