September Garments

Hello fellow sewists, I made one wearable muslin and three dresses based on Burdastyle Bow Back Maxi dress 129 - 11/2013 size 36 last month. And I'm glad that I wore the three dresses during my trip to Bangkok in the beginning of this month. They were perfect to wear in hot weather because I used cotton fabrics and the style was little bit loose and cosy 💕


As I mentioned on my Instagram post, my first plan was making the wearable muslin using cotton shirting fabric and the real dress using teal blue and white floral Japanese cotton fabric.
I supposed to use the cotton shirting fabric for DH's shirt but it was blemished,  I found out after I prewashed - it was full of tiny black spots all over the fabric. So I used it and will cover the blemished area with embroidery later when I have time.

Sewing process started with making some changes on the pattern, the original pattern is a maxi dress with back bow and long sleeve - perfect to wear for party and I modified to a simple every day dress, short sleeve, knee length, no bow and no lace.
I did my first dress (picture below) based on this pattern in May but I didn't like the neckline, front neckline was too high and back was too low (as original pattern has). So, this time I changed the front and back neckline to my liking and I made the wearable muslin first to see how the pattern works.

And here is my wearable muslin, I like the new neckline. I lowered the front neckline at CF 3 cm, added the shoulder length 3 cm, raised the CB few centimetres to balance the CF and made a new line of the neckline front and back. I also made full arm adjustment.

I did the printed teal blue and white cotton dress after the wearable muslin done and decided to add bodice lining, I used white silk satin from stash. 

This printed green dress was made as soon as I finished the teal blue and white dress, I decided to make sleeveless, v-neckline and added front bow as final touch. The fabric was Japanese cotton that I bought together with teal blue and white cotton in Nippori Textile town.

The last dress was made two days before my trip to Bangkok and glad I was done the night before our flight. I made it in v-neckline as the green dress and finished the sleeve with ruffle. The sleeve length just below my elbow (including the ruffle). I added bodice lining too on this dress because the Liberty tana lawn was too transparent, I used silk satin in blue from stash for the lining.
