DIY V-neck Tiered Dress

Hello, I made three dresses to wear on my trip to Bangkok during the Easter holiday and this dress is the first one I made. I will share another two in the next posts.  I started working on this dress two weeks before the trip and I'm glad I managed to finish it on time, as well as my other dresses.  This dress was fun and relaxing to sew because I made one before in a midi length, so this time I shortened the length until my knee and sewed it easily. For the fabric, I used a printed rayon from my stash and white cotton lining leftover from my previous make. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted pattern. At first, I didn't want to add the lining but I had to because the fabric was a bit transparent, the lining fabric wasn't enough and I connected the pieces to make the back skirt. Sleeveless Dress - Simplicity 1314 C.

This dress is my entry to #magamsewalong challenge in Instagram this month hosted by Sarah Liz. I am not sure if I followed July's theme, but I made a dress that I need at the moment 😊 I'm glad that finished just before the end of the month and wore it yesterday on our visit to Tokyo Disneyland. Beside this dress, I also made two more dresses to wear during summer holiday and I'd love to share with you in later post.

For the pattern, I used Simplicity 1314 C sleeveless dress Cynthia Rowley size 8. And for the fabric, I used knit jersey printed in big leaves that I bought months ago on sale in the local fabric shop.

I was following all measurements chart based on the pattern and I used size 8 (B cup). And surprised that the dress was too big for me, especially in the upper bodices. I didn't make a muslin, so I just cut/shorten the shoulder 5 cm (as shown in the picture below) and made a new neckline. I used the armhole as it is and the fit was okay.

The armholes and neckline finished by folding the seam allowance 1 cm and sew directly as it is. I didn't fuse the fusible tape this time and hope they will be okay after wearing and washing later.

I omitted the center back zipper because I used knit fabric with a lot of elastane.

I like the overall look of the finished dress, simple design, comfortable and I can wear it in summer or mild winter with cardigan and leggings.

Here is the back view of the dress, I'm not so sure if I like the way I match the prints but for sure only me seeing the imperfection, the busy prints hide it away.

As I mentioned above, we visited Tokyo Disneyland and had a lot fun yesterday. And glad that knit  dress keeps me cool and comfy in the middle of crowd and high heat 37C. You can see below that I was so sweating and still keep a big smile on my face 😁😁

    You did follow the theme your way - which is always what I want! You needed this, so it is therefor a basic you need! It's very pretty too - it's nice to see this dress made up in an exotic print - it works very well and your dress is certainly striking. Looks as though you had a fantastic time in Japan. Nice to see you back on the blog.
