DIY V-neck Tiered Dress

Image
Hello, I made three dresses to wear on my trip to Bangkok during the Easter holiday and this dress is the first one I made. I will share another two in the next posts.  I started working on this dress two weeks before the trip and I'm glad I managed to finish it on time, as well as my other dresses.  This dress was fun and relaxing to sew because I made one before in a midi length, so this time I shortened the length until my knee and sewed it easily. For the fabric, I used a printed rayon from my stash and white cotton lining leftover from my previous make. For the pattern, I used my self-drafted pattern. At first, I didn't want to add the lining but I had to because the fabric was a bit transparent, the lining fabric wasn't enough and I connected the pieces to make the back skirt. Here is the look of the fabric after cutting and the skirt was pieces of a rectangle: the first tiers - front and back, the last tier on the fold ( I forgot to take the p

Finished December Garment - Burdastyle Tunic Dress 11/2013

Hello and Welcome to 2014 dear friends!!
Today post is about my (very late) finished December garment for MAGAM challenge. Well, after hours of beading finally I have done it and very happy with how the dress turned-out.

The details of the dress:
Pattern:
I used Burdastyle Embellished tunic Dress 11/2013 size 34 with adjustment on the waist and the hips. I omitted the pockets and added 4 cm on the length of the dress. As I didn't have passementerie trim to sew around neck edge and front slit, I sew pearls on it.

Materials:
2 yards of medium weight knit ponte in black color, fusible interfacing, black color of thread, hook and eye fastener, a lot of pearls in three different size ( 2.5 mm, 5 mm and 8 mm) and white nylon thread for beading.

Sewing process:
I traced the pattern and added seam allowance 1.5 cm for all edges and 4 cm for sleeve hem and dress hem. Then I made a muslin. After I tried my muslin, I saw the neckline too high for my taste - so I have to reduced 1.5 cm in both front and back neckline.
The sewing process is enjoyable and the instructions of sewing the neck slit is very clear. But the difficult part is the beading. I have to spent hours doing it.
Also, for smooth finishes sleeve hem and dress hem, I fuse fusible interfacing on the wrong side of the dress, fold the right side of the fabric inside, pin it and sew it.

And here are more pictures of the dress,

That's all my today post, as you all know I was planning to wear this dress on Christmas dinner but I couldn't finish it on time, I will hang it inside my closet and wait for the right occasion to wear it.

Happy sewing!

  3. What a pity you couldn't wear it at Christmas - maybe your birthday or wedding anniversary might be a good time. It is a really lovely little dress - it hangs nicely, suits you and the beading is beautifully done.
