Easy Tote Bags (Sewing Project For Beginners)

Image
Hi there, I made two tote bags using cute cat-printed home decor fabrics. These tote bags are easy and fast to make, a perfect sewing project for beginner sewists. The final size is approximately 34 cm long x 34 cm wide and 9 cm deep. The size is enough to carry books or shopping stuff. The process started with cutting the fabric,  - The tote bag's body: 42 cm long x 38 cm wide (on fold). - Handle: 62 cm long x 8 cm wide (2x). - Bias tape band 4 cm wide. Fold the fabric right sides together and sew both sides. And then, clip and sew the bias tape band to secure the fabric (to avoid fraying). Cut the corners, 3 cm x 3cm square, after the seam allowance. Sew the corner and secure it with bias tape band ( both sides). Here is the look after I sew the corners. I work on the handles by folding them in half and then clip the seam allowance 1 cm inside. Fold the seam allowance 1 cm inside and fold the fabr...

Square Neck Dress

Image
I made a new dress last week, another simple design and comfortable to wear. I decided to make it the day before our trip to HK and glad that I managed to finish it in one afternoon. Bravo for me 😁  The dress has short sleeves and a square neckline which I like so much, the darts on the front, the invisible zipper at the center back, and the dress length just above my knee. A perfect dress for summer. I used my self-drafted pattern and linen blend fabric in printed boats I bought in the local shop last year. The two yards of fabric weren't enough to make the full dress, so I tried my best to use it all, and in the end, the backside of the dress was made from two pieces that I sewed together. Nobody will notice it, except when very close. The progress started with drafting the dress, my flat sketch is far from perfect but I have fun. After that, I modified my basic self-drafted dress pattern into a square neck and omitted the back darts.  The picture be...

Tiered Midi Dress

Image
I managed to organize myself after a few months of lacking creativity, thanks to Me-Made-May which made me realize that I should make a proper plan and get back to making stuff and updating the blog more often.  At the beginning of this month, I finished the mixed prints sleeveless top for #magammayhem #magamsewalong challenge on Instagram and I was happy with the result, here is  the link  in case you want to see the full detail. The next day, I started to work with the tiered midi dress using the floral drapey rayon blend fabric that I bought recently in the local fabric shop. I found my inspiration from Pinterest, made a flat sketch, and drafted the pattern myself. This tiered midi dress is my entry to June's challenge on Instagram #magamjovialjune hosted by  @suestoney   @sewing_in_spain  and  @sarahcsewing  . To match the theme, I'm making a dress from colorful fabric (floral) that also brings joy. Thank you for hosting the lovely cha...
